Michigan Masonry Contractor Finds Lackluster Brick Repair

I was driving down Grand River the other day and was distraught to see so many historical and beautiful brick homes in shambles. Brick homes with the history and beauty of those in Detroit are a rarity. Artistry found on the average brick home in Detroit is reserved for the rich and elite. Few bricklayers have the skill or are willing to spend time and energy to lay such detailed brickwork on the average home. Where have the craftsman gone? When did the world of masonry switch form pride in ones work to slamming in as many brick as you can just to make a buck?
While it is sad to see that few masons are willing to go the extra mile, it is more depressing to see that many of Detroit’s masonry gems are left to die a festering death. How can we let our brick gems literally fall to pieces? The few pitiful repairs that most of these homes receive seem have are haphazardly thrown together with little thought to appearance, quality, curb appeal, or of the homes value. I hope that those people doing the awful repairs are not being paid and that the sight of this work inspires the neighbors to hire a professional. Is saving a buck on a shoddy repair worth costing you a fortune in your home’s value? I am a big do –it-yourselfer, but I know my limitations. When I need a pro, I call one. As a brick layer in Michigan, it makes me sad to see some of the garbage people try to pass of as a repair. Let’s revitalize Detroit ONE BRICK AT A TIME!
